Our Rolling Stock

Crowle Peatland Railway is home to a fascinating collection of narrow-gauge locomotives and vehicles that once played a vital role in transporting peat from the moors to the processing mills. Highlights include our lovingly restored Simplex locomotive, Little Peat, and the powerful diesel-hydraulic Schöma engines introduced in the 1990s to modernise peat haulage.

Our collection also features a rare Wagonmaster locomotive, formerly used on the Bord na Móna peat railways in Ireland, and a historic Wickham Trolley originally built for the 3ft gauge Lochaber Railway in Scotland—each piece offering a unique glimpse into the industrial heritage of peatland transport.

Whether you’re a railway enthusiast or simply curious about local history, our rolling stock brings the story of the moors to life. Click the links below to explore each vehicle in more detail.
